Researchers Explore The Consequences of Perceiving God as a White Male

“I grew up in a almost exclusively Black church led by a Black female minister. And within that church there was imagery of a white male God that just always stood out to me; an entity that didn’t necessarily look like anyone in the church and I always wondered how that affected us psychologically.”

“We live in a society in which there is a lot of racism and sexism across many domains of American life. And I think our studies really importantly capture how that racism and sexism even influences spaces like the US Church. The findings I hope may start a critical conversation about how to maybe work towards a church and a broader society where anybody can be percieved as worthy of leadership, irrespective of their race or gender. “

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
