Although we can't change the past, we can learn from it, be mindful of the present, and look forward to the future.

12/12/12

I’ve been hearing a lot of stories in the news about how special today’s date is because it of the way it’s arranged numerically. They say 12/12/12/ is one of those days that those of us who are alive today will never see again in our lifetimes.

When I think about it though, every day is like that. Every year is like that. Every moment, once past, is gone for good. Although we can’t change the past, we can learn from it, be mindful of the present, and look forward to the future. Our time is so important, and sometimes it can be so easy to forget to “smell the roses” in the midst of all of life’s busyness.

So, for these next two minutes and twenty-seven seconds, be intentional with me and chill out to the sounds of the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s Pumpkin Waltz, and think about everything that is going great in your life.

Although we can't change the past, we can learn from it, be mindful of the present, and look forward to the future.

Although we can’t change the past, we can learn from it, be mindful of the present, and look forward to the future.

Grace & Peace,

From Aspiring Humanitarian, Relando Thompkins, MSW

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
