This talk from Brene Brown on differences between empathy and sympathy is a great reminder to be more aware of how we respond to others when they share something challenging with us.

“Rarely if ever, does an empathetic response begin with “at least”“.

Although brief, it exposes a tendency to immediately begin trying to “solve” something, and in the process, demonstrates how invalidating that can be to others.
