Partly Cloudy

Check out this animated short entitled “Partly Cloudy” and answer the following questions:

What did the White (light) clouds produce, and how did you initially interpret it? Did your thoughts change over the course of the film?

What did the dark cloud produce, and how did you initially interpret it? Did your thoughts change over the course of the film?

The light clouds were higher in the sky than the dark cloud was? What meaning or association did you draw from the positionality of the clouds?

I was initially drawn in by the animation and music, but in addition to the stork story (which we can also unpack), I was also reminded of the subtle ways we are conditioned to associate safety and positivity with Whiteness, and the various ways those ideas and associations of Whiteness as being positive, better, “superior”are reinforced in society.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
