#RaceAnd Series Explores the Importance of Intersectionality

“Not just about multiple identities. It’s about how structures make certain identities the consequence of, and vehicle for vulnerability. For clues look at the context and the consequences. What kind of discrimination is going on? What are the policies? What are the institutional structures that play a role in contributing to the exclusion of some people and not others?”

–Kimberlé Crenshaw

Produced by Kat Lazo, #RaceAnd explores some of the ways racial identity intersects and compounds with other identities as they relate to the experiences of people of color. Not just identities, but systems. In this 8 part series the speakers highlight examples of the impact of white supremacy compounded with heterosexism, cissexism, ableism, and other systems impact people of color.

I’m sharing the full playlist here, but the series was also released in two parts. You can visit part one and part two of the series at colorlines for more information about the speakers who were featured.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
