Social Experiment Highlights Differences in Racial Perceptions

Race Matters. The way in which people are perceived based on their race matters. Sometimes, it can even mean the difference between who is seen as being simply locked out of their car, and who is most definitely a dangerous criminal.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.

  1. Powerful video clip illustrating the biases that we still sadly hold… Thank you for sharing, Relando.

    • Thanks for visiting Dorlee, what happens based on those biases has real impacts on the lives of people, and can even sometimes spell the difference between living and dying. I think it’s important to address the criminalization of people of color and how that plays out personally, professionally and institutionally and to have as many personal experiences as possible that can drive home not only how devastating racism really is, but also the ways in which we contribute to and maintain the notion of white supremacy knowingly or unkowningly so that we can begin to think and act in more socially just ways.

I agree this was really powerful. Not sure if you can see comments this far back. But I had a question. This would be a good one to ask. Although it may be lengthy. If you can see it let me know. Thank you.
