“The Lunch Date”

I’ve been doing some mediation training lately with The Dispute Resolution Center. During my latest training session I was shown this brief video called, “The Lunch Date”. Don’t let the film’s dated look fool you. Watch it til the end and you might see that there’s much more to it than what might meet the eyes on the surface.

Watching this gave me a good reminder of how powerful assumptions are, and how quickly we can jump to conclusions.

What’s your perception?

It was sad to see how a white woman’s perceptions of African-American men caused her to behave in negative ways which were unwarranted. I loved the ending when she realized that she was the one who had behaved inappropriately towards an African-American man. This definitely says a lot about how our perceptions form our behavior towards others. Thanks for sharing

The “Lunch Date” is an interesting video that highlights more than just assumptions, which it does a good job of doing. However, another thing that really stood out to me was when this woman didn’t have enough money to pay for her salad the vendor let her have it for less than $2. And since this was a film, or short, there was a purpose or lesson in it. It’s something very human and or and greedy we have seen people do or have done ourselves in our lives; and that’s not being able to give or to be generous…..especially when someone has just shown you generosity. Good video Relando, I enjoyed watching it.

    • That’s a great point T. Its really interesting to think about how the vendor was able to give her the meal for less than the actual price. It was done so quickly but like you, I can definitely see the humanity in that act of giving. Thanks for stopping by.

    Spoiler alert? LOL

Agree with T., I loved how the video demonstrated generosity, too (the man who she thought was eating her salad eventually bought coffee/tea for both of them to drink).

    • HAHA! Yes Anum, it was a bit of a spoiler alert I must say :) I’m glad you watched it anyway. Thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate your comments! Did you ever decide on a blogging platform for yourself?
