These 3 Videos Highlight The Absurdity of “All Lives Matter”

First up is this video from Buzzfeed entitled If “All Lives Matter” Logic Was Applied to Everyday life. While they severely missed the mark with the 27 Questions Black People Have For Black People video, I think this one is a good representation of the impact of saying “All Lives Matter”.

“All Lives Matter”

There are all sorts of implications and invalidation in this video. It reminds me of that quote about not remembering the words of our enemies as much as we remember the silence of our “friends”.

“Edison Takes A Stand”

Last up in this short round-up is a clip from Shonda Rhimes’ tv show Scandal. The clip is from the episode entitled “Trump Card” where then presidential candidate Edison Davis goes against all advice (and warning) to refrain from speaking his mind about candidate Hollis Doyle, who is clearly meant to embody a fictitious imitation of the very real Donald Trump. Listen to his monologue and draw your own conclusions about why he was said to have “just lost the presidency” by the end.

There you have it. 3 similar, but different videos that drive home the absurdity of the phrase “All Lives Matter” as it is used as a silencing tactic to derail conversations and hush the voices of those who speak out about racial injustice.
