Update Over Coffee: My November Blogging Challenge So Far
Today’s prompt for this month’s blogging challenge involves giving an update to my readers over coffee, and I’ve chosen to use the prompt to share my thoughts about the process so far.
Although having a self-hosted blog has its perks, one of the drawbacks I’ve experienced since my switch a couple of years ago was not feeling as connected to the blogging community.

I have really appreciated being able to participate in my writing workshop, largely because I have been able to connect with other bloggers.
It’s given me a sense of writing community that I had when I used WordPress.com that is sometimes missing in the self-hosted space, where you’re for a large part independent and the network of writers isn’t built-in like it is at WP.com.
I wish there was a “Freshly Pressed” for self-hosted folks too, but the community interaction and feedback that I have received as a result of taking the course is definitely something I’ve missed.
I have also been inspired to do some of my very best writing as a result of taking this class as well, and a vast majority of my notes for November 2015 are going to be added into my Best of N.A.H. list next month. I’ve been able to connect more with others who share similar interests, and I’ve also been able to follow the blogs of many of my fellow classmates too.
As I enter my third week, I am extremely happy that I decided to be a part of this.

I originally joined the blogging u courses to challenge myself with the writing prompts, and learn how to personalize my site, as I’m still fairly new to blogging. I got all of this, of course, but I got the community as well. I could definitely see why you’d miss that. Connecting with other bloggers is not only fun, it’s a learning experience as well. I’ve enjoyed meeting new people through the courses. The help and support is incredible. :)
It really is Christina! I’m able to stay somewhat connected through using the jetpack plugin, but it’s still not quite the same. Perhaps one day they’ll do something to link self-hosted blogs that want to opt in, or maybe I’ll just have to create that space myself :-)
