Flipping The Script: If White Actors Were Treated Like Latino Actors

A group of my students shared this video as a part of a larger presentation in my foundations for multicultural social work class this semester, and I’m sharing it here.

“In the media, the misrepresentation of Latinos is rooted in very specific stereotypes.”

In this Mic video on the misrepresentation of people who are Latino and Latina in the media, viewers are also provided with a glimpse of how casting calls can feel to actors who are often asked to play into stereotypes to get the part.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
