Take This With You Volume 2 from Social Justice Origin Stories is available for viewing and listening.
I invite you to check it out and use the time as an opportunity to reflect on what you need in your own journey to advance social justice, given the state of the world right now. I hope it serves as a necessary check-in for you.
Here are three important takeaways to consider:
Expressing Gratitude to the People Who Helped Us Along the Way: It’s important to thank the people in our lives who have supported or influenced us while they are still present to receive the message, and to be specific in our sharing about what their impact means to us. Give those people in your life their flowers and affirmations.
Justice Seekers Deserve to Grow Old: Social Justice work is often difficult, it can be lonely at times, and it requires long-term commitment. It’s important to hear stories of changemakers about the victories and the hard times, the joys and the challenges of the work. While we go about our work, it’s also important to imagine a future where we get to see the ways our efforts have come to fruition.
There’s Room for All of Us. This is Coalition Work: Everyone has a role to play in working for social change, regardless of visibility or position. Leadership should be seen as accessible and collective—not limited to singular heroes or those with the loudest voices. Lasting change comes from leveraging the varied contributions of many people.
