Discussing Macro Social Work

In the past as a student, and even today as a practitioner I have often found it challenging to find mentoring and supervision opportunities for people who want to practice Macro Social Work.

As I continue to seek out opportunities for myself, I also take great pride in making my experiences accessible to others who want to pursue macro work as well.

Last month I had the opportunity to join four other Social Workers to share with current MSW students at the University of Michigan about our experiences using Macro Social Work methods in our careers. I was joined by Uma AhluwaliaNeetu GrewalBrittany Sandefur, and DiAné Sue Townsel.

If you’re interested in Macro Social Work practice, I’d also like to refer you to MacroSW, whose mission is to promote macro-focused social work practice and education while creating a community for social workers.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
